Bigfoot Brains

The always amazing Don Jeffrey Meldrum posted a link to a interesting brains article on his Facebook page.

“Scientists discover why the human brain is so big” from Theguardian.com

What interests me, and others I presume, in this article is the statement that “Molecular switch makes human organ three times larger than great apes’, study finds”.

So what if a very large great ape like the Gigantopithecus had this molecular switch turned on? What if by chance this large ape was lucky enough, just like us, to have this switch?

Well, you’d have a Bigfoot I think. And why isn’t this possible? It’s a perfect explanation of Bigfoot.

Another interesting statement: “Tinker with the switch and the human brain loses its growth advantage, while the great ape brain can be made to grow more like a human’s.”

So is it reasonable to think that someone, somewhere hasn’t already tinkered? Or maybe it was just Mother Nature who flipped his switch? I mean, some how the human’s switch was flipped.

OK, maybe I’m flipped. But it’s something worth thinking about.

Bigfoot Anatomy Questions

For this week’s post I just have a lot of questions. These have come up during recent research and I thought I’d list them out. There are so many things we don’t know about Bigfoot but what triggered these questions are changes in descriptions or portrayals over past years. I’d love to hear any feedback.

  • Inbreeding is causing extra or less toes?
  • Is breeding with human women introducing an arch to the foot prints? Causing them to be smaller?
  • Opposable thumbs or not?
  • Does the hair color turn white with age?
  • Does Bigfoot hibernate?
  • Why underhand throws and not overhand? Too much shoulder muscle?
  • Grunting only communication? What about simple sign language?
  • Grooming? Bathing? Why the smell? Toilet paper? 🙂
  • Carnivore or Vegetarian?
  • Night vision or not?
  • Tiny ears means poor hearing?
  • Plural: Bigfeet or Bigfoots?

Lots of questions and I really would like some feedback from you all. Thoughts?

When to look for Bigfoot?

A book I use for so much inspiration and data is by my Bigfoot Researcher hero John Green:

This image has an empty alt attribute

The Best of Sasquatch Bigfoot from Amazon.com

I have to call out credit right away because I used data directly from the book to build a graph of when during the year Bigfoot sightings seem to occur most often.

This is from John’s database at the time, the blue bars are number of sightings he recorded for that month over the years. July and Aug make sense as people are out in the bush the most in the summer and would have more encounters. But does it really make sense? What about the seasonal workers? What about the fact the in the Pacific Northwest we have a temperate climate? Or is this because more people are out then or cause of him? Another thing John mentions is that where there is greater than 20 inches of rain per year, Bigfoot is there. The temperate climate I mentioned fits with that.

And what’s with that spike in October? Halloween? And April? April Fool’s Day? May makes sense, cause it’s so dam wet around here in May.

So I haven’t really reached any conclusions here, just more questions. I’ll just focus my efforts on the Summer and Fall and see what I find.

A Really Big Footprint? Or Cry Wolf?

About 250km north east of here was a reported Bigfoot print last month. Here’s a quote from the new article: https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/326085/Kelowna-man-claims-to-have-found-large-footprint-on-his-property

“Roy Watson lives on June Springs Rd. in East Kelowna and recently posted a photo of a six-inch wide footprint.”

Look at the photo above that he took. Does that look like it’s six inches wide? The foot print itself is maybe 5 inches wide at best. And if you use that ruler the length is maybe 12 inches. That makes it a shoe size 14 or 15. Yet the expert “Brian Wells” who studied it claims the print is between a size 17-20 men’s shoe size. “It was a very large print.”

After some researching on Google I can find nothing of expert “Brian Wells”.

It’s a bare foot human print in my opinion. But I’m sure these people catch very large fish as well.

Investigation Methods

So I have been giving a whole lot of thought to the ways to approach finding Bigfoot. So I started googling how “investigations” work for police officers, research scientists and even Private Investigators. Here’s the notes I’ve put together. You can just call me Biggy P.I.

Oh yeah, the picture above can be found at Archie McPhee Accoutrements Bigfoot Sasquatch Outdoor Research Kit Novelty Gift, Multicolored, 7″ x 5″ x 1-1/2″

Three Types of Scientific Investigations

  • Descriptive Investigations.
  • Comparative Investigations.
  • Experimental Investigations.

A Six-step Incident Investigation Approach

  • Step 1 – Immediate action. …
  • Step 2 – Plan the investigation. …
  • Step 3 – Data collection. …
  • Step 4 – Data analysis. …
  • Step 5 – Corrective actions. …
  • Step 6 – Reporting.

Scientists use different methods of investigation in different circumstances. These methods include (in no particular order) fair testing, identifying and classifying, modelling, pattern seeking, and researching.

The 4 Stages of an Incident Investigation

  • Preserve and Document the Incident Scene. An incident investigator’s first priority should be to ensure that the incident site is safe and secure. …
  • Collecting Information. a Interviewing witnesses. …
  • Determine Root Causes. …
  • Implement Corrective Actions.

7 Steps of the Scientific Method

  • Step 1- Question.
  • Step 2-Research.
  • Step 3-Hypothesis.
  • Step 4-Experiment.
  • Step 5-Observations.
  • Step 6-Results/Conclusion.
  • Step 7- Communicate. Present/share your results. Replicate.

7 Steps of a Crime Scene Investigation

  • Identify Scene Dimensions. Locate the focal point of the scene. …
  • Establish Security. Tape around the perimeter. …
  • Create a Plan & Communicate. Determine the type of crime that occurred. …
  • Conduct Primary Survey. Identify potential evidence. …
  • Document and Process Scene. …
  • Conduct Secondary Survey. …
  • Record and Preserve Evidence.

7 Building Blocks of Investigation

  • 1 Process of investigation diagram.
  • 2 Instigation.
  • 3 Initial investigation.
  • 4 Further investigation.
  • 5 Suspect management.
  • 6 Case management.
  • 7 Material.

So what does this all mean to me as a Bigfoot Finder? I don’t know right now to be honest, I’m just putting it altogether in my head to figure out my approach. What do you think works?

Bigfoot Names around the World

I recently took some heat about my resistance to using the name Sasquatch because I spell it wrong all the time, word checker be dammed. So I thought I’d turn a negative into a positive and try to collect all the names for Bigfoot from around the world. These were collected from numerous and various websites all over the interwebs. So to give credit, I stand on the shoulder of giants. But I wanted to get one solid master list going that I will continue to update.

So please, I implore you, if I missed one or got it wrong please leave a comment and I’ll fix it right up.

Baiting with Sound

One of the features of the Trail Camera design that I am working on is that it can play sounds at random times, certain times of the day or in response to an image capture or movement. And it seems that using various animal calls for birds, deer and even wild hogs works quite well. So I thought why not do some work on putting together a collection of sounds to attract Bigfoot.

So my research has found a plethora of sounds that people have claimed they heard or that worked in attracting or calling Bigfoot:

  • Screams at night
  • “Whoops” sounds
  • 3 wood knocks
  • 3 hand claps
  • 3 stone knocks
  • Samurai Chatter
  • Loud thumps
  • Cracking wood
  • Whuuf sounds
  • Deep grunts

So obviously there is a lot to choose from. And a lot of toys and things out there you can use as well. The toy pictured above is the Archie McPhee Emergency Bigfoot Electronic Noisemaker which is available from Amazon in this link.

For what I decided on in the end, here is my collection of mp3s that I will be using:

3 Wood Knocks
3 Hand Claps
3 Rock Knocks
Howls #1
Howls #2

We’ll see how these work out. Just about finished building my first trail camera. I’ll take pictures and video once it’s installed in the wild.

Hunting (killing) Vs Finder (research) Bigfoot

“Oklahoma lawmaker proposes ‘Bigfoot’ hunting season” is the headline for this article on AP News.

In short, this guy wants to issue state hunting licenses and tags to help boost tourism. “Establishing an actual hunting season and issuing licenses for people who want to hunt Bigfoot will just draw more people to our already beautiful part of the state,” Humphrey said in a statement.

OK, first up is that this is just fricken stupid. He is inviting a bunch of people with guns who are looking for the $25,000 to be offered as a bounty by him. Someone will get hurt, most certainly. This is just stupid, no other word for it.

UPDATE 3/10/2021: The bounty is now $2 million! https://cryptidlab.com/bigfoot-oklahoma-bill-2-million-dollars/

This blog has always stated “It’s about Bigfoot Finding not Hunting”. So I thought I’d dig into the Hunting versus Finding topic. And I think a simple way to make my point is to list various words that describe both sides of this Bigfoot coin. And yes they do make a Bigfoot coin! I had to google it, the one pictured above you can buy from Amazon here. OK, the list:

Have I made my point?

Hot Spots and Maps

I always had a thing about maps and the maps have a thing about me. We fight, we lie and we always get it wrong. I can’t remember location names due to a condition. I don’t have a good sense of direction, my wife says it’s that of a weasel on espresso. So when GPS handhelds arrived I tried that and it’s didn’t help. But when Google Maps on a phone started working properly then I was all in.

I saw a post on Reddit the other day from these guys: https://www.bigfootmap.com/ and I asked if they had John Green’s Bigfoot data. It was a no and I’m not surprised at all, there are like maybe 3 sightings marked for the Harrison Lake area!? Uggg..not good.

So I’m going to update my Green’s map with some of the more historical Bigfoot events like Ruby Creek and some of Thomas Steenburg’s records.

The one’s that stand out to me are: https://thomassteenburg.com/2020/04/09/never-to-late-to-report-a-sighting/ which is the Vye Road Power Station. The Stephen King movie Dreamcatcher was filmed in it. I used to live in that area and know that building and the area VERY well. If you head straight south of there it’s nothing but mountain and trees till you hit the USA. Which made it an active area for drug runners. VERY active.

And then there is Mystery Valley which is west of Harrison Lake: https://thomassteenburg.com/2016/05/10/mystery-valley/

So I’m going to visit/revisit these areas for historical nostalgia’s sake. But to be honest, I’m sticking to lakes, rivers and creeks because that is the best and easiest to find good tracks.
