Rick Baker built it all

A record-holding winner of seven Academy Awards for Makeup, Rick Baker won the first competitive Oscar awarded in that category for his innovative work on An American Werewolf in London (1981). This is a great behind the scenes look at some of his iconic shots in the film.

And he builds the most amazing Bigfoot costumes. He’s the best in the world as far as I am concerned.

Investigation Methods

So I have been giving a whole lot of thought to the ways to approach finding Bigfoot. So I started googling how “investigations” work for police officers, research scientists and even Private Investigators. Here’s the notes I’ve put together. You can just call me Biggy P.I.

Oh yeah, the picture above can be found at Archie McPhee Accoutrements Bigfoot Sasquatch Outdoor Research Kit Novelty Gift, Multicolored, 7″ x 5″ x 1-1/2″

Three Types of Scientific Investigations

  • Descriptive Investigations.
  • Comparative Investigations.
  • Experimental Investigations.

A Six-step Incident Investigation Approach

  • Step 1 – Immediate action. …
  • Step 2 – Plan the investigation. …
  • Step 3 – Data collection. …
  • Step 4 – Data analysis. …
  • Step 5 – Corrective actions. …
  • Step 6 – Reporting.

Scientists use different methods of investigation in different circumstances. These methods include (in no particular order) fair testing, identifying and classifying, modelling, pattern seeking, and researching.

The 4 Stages of an Incident Investigation

  • Preserve and Document the Incident Scene. An incident investigator’s first priority should be to ensure that the incident site is safe and secure. …
  • Collecting Information. a Interviewing witnesses. …
  • Determine Root Causes. …
  • Implement Corrective Actions.

7 Steps of the Scientific Method

  • Step 1- Question.
  • Step 2-Research.
  • Step 3-Hypothesis.
  • Step 4-Experiment.
  • Step 5-Observations.
  • Step 6-Results/Conclusion.
  • Step 7- Communicate. Present/share your results. Replicate.

7 Steps of a Crime Scene Investigation

  • Identify Scene Dimensions. Locate the focal point of the scene. …
  • Establish Security. Tape around the perimeter. …
  • Create a Plan & Communicate. Determine the type of crime that occurred. …
  • Conduct Primary Survey. Identify potential evidence. …
  • Document and Process Scene. …
  • Conduct Secondary Survey. …
  • Record and Preserve Evidence.

7 Building Blocks of Investigation

  • 1 Process of investigation diagram.
  • 2 Instigation.
  • 3 Initial investigation.
  • 4 Further investigation.
  • 5 Suspect management.
  • 6 Case management.
  • 7 Material.

So what does this all mean to me as a Bigfoot Finder? I don’t know right now to be honest, I’m just putting it altogether in my head to figure out my approach. What do you think works?

Baiting with Sound

One of the features of the Trail Camera design that I am working on is that it can play sounds at random times, certain times of the day or in response to an image capture or movement. And it seems that using various animal calls for birds, deer and even wild hogs works quite well. So I thought why not do some work on putting together a collection of sounds to attract Bigfoot.

So my research has found a plethora of sounds that people have claimed they heard or that worked in attracting or calling Bigfoot:

  • Screams at night
  • “Whoops” sounds
  • 3 wood knocks
  • 3 hand claps
  • 3 stone knocks
  • Samurai Chatter
  • Loud thumps
  • Cracking wood
  • Whuuf sounds
  • Deep grunts

So obviously there is a lot to choose from. And a lot of toys and things out there you can use as well. The toy pictured above is the Archie McPhee Emergency Bigfoot Electronic Noisemaker which is available from Amazon in this link.

For what I decided on in the end, here is my collection of mp3s that I will be using:

3 Wood Knocks
3 Hand Claps
3 Rock Knocks
Howls #1
Howls #2

We’ll see how these work out. Just about finished building my first trail camera. I’ll take pictures and video once it’s installed in the wild.
